Traveling the road toward independence must include the development of various independent living skills in preparation for the responsibilities of adulthood. The individualized, semi-independent living model at STRīV (with regular access to mentors) provides meaningful opportunities to develop many of these critical skills. In addition to one-on-one mentoring, there are also a variety of group opportunities (or access to classes within the community) that may focus on skills development, such as…
• General emotional & physical self-care
• Managing/maintaining the living space
• Budgeting/money management
• Public transportation/driving
• Meal planning and preparation
• Vocational training and/or work experience
• Citizenship & community involvement
At STRiV, one of our most important objectives is to empower students through the development of critical life skills and increased confidence.
