At STRiV Forward, we utilize executive function coaching for our young adult students as a way to teach valuable life skills they will need to be successful. This doesn’t just instill good habits, but also helps our students to take an active role in their healing and personal growth.

Comprehensive Executive Function Coaching for Young Adults
Why Families and Students Choose STRiV Forward
STRiV Forward sets itself apart by offering a unique, supportive environment that helps young adults build independence and confidence.

Safe Space for Growth
We understand how challenging it can be to transition into adulthood. Our program offers a supportive environment where students can learn from failure and try again without the pressure of perfection, fostering resilience and confidence.
Personalized Support
Each student receives tailored mental health care designed to promote community, growth, and accountability. Our small, boutique setting ensures individualized attention with a 1:4 mentor-to-student ratio, enabling meaningful connections and personalized guidance.
Community, Not Just Treatment
Students are integrated into a supportive community rather than feeling like just a participant in a treatment program. We encourage and help facilitate social connections within the program and in the outside community. Helping students “find their people” is an important element of being at STRiV.
Structured Opportunities for Reflection and Growth
Within our safe and supportive environment, students are encouraged to reflect, learn from their experiences, and grow at their own pace. The combination of peer and professional support creates a nurturing space for meaningful development.
Freedom to Pursue Passions
We encourage students to engage in hobbies and activities they love. Our flexible environment promotes self-discovery and confidence, helping students develop independence through meaningful experiences.
Long-Term Relationships
Our dedicated staff has an exceptionally low turnover rate, allowing mentors to build lasting, trust-based relationships with students. This stability supports ongoing growth and personalized mentoring.

Understanding Executive Functioning Skills

Executive function skills are the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. These essential skills are needed for a person to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses.
At STRiV, our initial assessment evaluates 12 executive skills to help us identify where executive coaching can be most beneficial. These executive skills are:
- Response inhibition
- Working memory
- Emotional control
- Task initiation
- Sustained attention
- Planning/prioritizing
- Organization
- Time management
- Flexibility
- Metacognition
- Goal-directed persistence
- Stress tolerance
How We Support Executive Function Development

Personalized Executive Function Coaching for Young Adults
Integrating Coaching Into Daily Life
For example, students live in fully furnished apartments at STRiV with private bedrooms and bathrooms. However, they, along with their roommate, are responsible for keeping things clean, doing their own laundry, budgeting, grocery shopping, and more. A student struggling with problem-solving or multi-tasking will have plenty of opportunities to practice doing so with the gentle guidance of their mentor and coach.

Evidence-Based Approach to Skill Development
Our coaches utilize evidence-based therapies and approaches, such as self-management training, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Skills like creating a checklist or a to-do list, practicing stress-relieving techniques, and breaking big tasks into smaller ones are all taught in coaching.
With the help of our team and evidence-based approaches, students see a noticeable improvement in their development. This returns agency to students and shows them that they can achieve great things if they are willing to work for it.
Helping Young Adults Thrive
Life Skills and Executive Functioning in a Semi-Independent Living Program
Structured, Supportive Environment for Skill Growth
Our coaches and mentors are here to guide students in forming healthy habits and skills they will need to be successful in a career, higher education, and life in general. Although students are responsible for tasks such as arriving at class on time or turning in assignments, professionals are around to offer assistance as needed. This safety net gives students the confidence they need to not just figure out how to best emulate the skills they learn, but to discover who they are in the process.

Daily Structure and Coaching Routine at STRiV Forward
Typical Day for
Students
Students go over their goal roadmap each week to ensure they are meeting their goals and to identify areas of struggle. STRiV carefully balances structured routines to give students time to rest and take care of various responsibilities. They also have opportunities to explore the community of Orem, Utah, to further foster independence.
Weekly Rhythm and Community Activities
Students are required to attend three community activities per week. These activities help students find their place in the community as young adults by helping those in need.
