mentorship at Striv Forward
STRiV Forward in Orem, Utah, offers therapeutic transitional living, not inpatient or residential treatment, for young adults facing mental health challenges that prevent them from achieving independence. With our team of expert mentors, clinicians, and outside providers, we can help young adults ages 18-28+ who demonstrate stability, willingness to engage, and motivation for growth.

Our program is best suited for emerging adults with challenges not severe enough to require residential or inpatient care, but who need more support than what an outpatient program can offer.
We offer fully furnished apartment-based living close to Salt Lake City that takes advantage of what Utah has to offer. With a bustling, helpful community, outdoor activities, and weekly trips, your loved one can get the support they need to thrive. Our program is flexible, and lasts on average between 10 and 14 months.

If your loved one is ready to make positive changes and prepare for adult life, STRiV Forward can help.

Our Orem Setting for Young Adult Mental Health Treatment

STRiV Forward is not a clinical facility; instead, we seek to create a warm, comfortable environment that mimics real life. This allows students to naturally develop critical skills, such as accountability, in a safe space where they can fail and try again. Students build independence by managing their apartments, attending school, or holding a job through our academic and vocational programs.

Although life at STRiV is as close to the real world as possible, students still have access to caring, expert mentors and coaches who help guide them into independence. There’s plenty of time for recreation and socialization in between responsibilities and treatment, allowing students to explore who they are as emerging adults. You can trust that your loved one will not only be safe at STRiV, but also thrive.

Apartment-Style Living That Supports Independence

Students at STRiV live in shared apartments with private bedrooms and bathrooms. These are fully furnished spaces, with appliances such as a washer and dryer, stove, and more. Although students live semi-independently, professional mentors are available to provide guidance.

Students learn responsibility through real-life activities such as purchasing groceries, cooking, and budgeting, with the help of our mentors. This offers a balance of autonomy and support, which builds confidence and self-esteem.

Mental Health Conditions We Support in Young Adults

Young adults often deal with mental health issues that can hold them back from achieving independence as adults. With professional help, we can address these issues and support our students in coping with and managing these conditions.

Anxiety Disorders and Emotional Regulation Challenges

Some of the most common mental health disorders affecting adolescents and young adults are anxiety and emotional regulation challenges. These issues can manifest as anxiety disorders, such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and social anxiety disorder. This fear and panic can lead to avoidance behaviors and social struggles, which can make it difficult to fulfill adult responsibilities.

ADHD and Executive Functioning Difficulties

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that makes it difficult to focus, regulate emotions, and control impulses. Unmanaged ADHD can lead to executive functioning difficulties, such as trouble managing time, following through on tasks, or problem-solving.

Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and Mood Instability

Mood disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder, can also make it difficult to achieve independence. Students with these disorders may withdraw from others and struggle to manage their mood.

Personality Disorders and Complex Mental Health Needs

Other complex mental health needs can negatively affect overall quality of life and make it difficult to thrive. A young adult with a personality disorder may struggle with interpersonal relationships and overall functioning. Although these issues are complex, they can be managed with the right professional help.

Eating Disorders and Co-Occurring Concerns

Young adults of any gender can struggle with an eating disorder. These disorders are dangerous to overall health and can co-occur with other concerns such as self-harm, substance use, and psychosis.

Although STRiV Forward can help students with mild eating disorders, we are not able to help students with severe issues, such as active substance abuse or conditions that require extensive medical monitoring.

Evidence-Based Mental Health Services for Young Adults

STRiV Forward is proud to have a team of caring, expert mental health professionals who can provide evidence-based mental health care for our students. We readily collaborate with outside providers to provide services that promote change.

Individual Therapy, Psychiatry, and Collaborative Care

Each treatment plan is a collaborative effort between our students, clinicians, and psychiatry providers. This allows us to provide psychiatric care, which includes medication management for students who need it. We also use evidence-based psychotherapy in our treatment plans, designed to return agency to our students, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

Group Therapy and Peer Support

STRiV Forward utilizes the power of peer support and accountability in our mental health treatment program. Group therapy is readily used to help peers provide feedback to one another and share experiences. We also offer support groups led by experienced providers, such as our social connection group and our life skills group. This allows our students to learn alongside their peers, encouraging mutual growth and socialization.

Skill-Building Interventions That Promote Independence

Our life skills coaching program utilizes skilled mentors who teach our students the critical skills they will need in adulthood. Some examples include emotional regulation, effective communication, and executive function coaching

Whole-Person Behavioral Health Approach

Mental health care involves whole-person care. As such, we take a holistic approach to mental health treatment that includes wellness and social connection. Students learn how to stay healthy through proper sleep, moving their bodies, eating well, and seeking meaningful connections with others.

Daily Life in Our Young Adult Mental Health Program

Students collaboratively build their daily structure, typically from 9 am to 10 pm, to include a personalized mix of instruction, school/work, study, personal care, socialization, and fun! This can include mentorship, exciting activities, academic or vocational paths, and community dinners. The average day for students is to study or go to work, receive treatment as needed, participate in community activities, coaching/mentoring, and recreation with breaks for meals.
Students live in fully furnished apartments with no curfew, so they are responsible for maintaining their own schedules. This naturally builds accountability (through tools such as Google Calendar monitoring). Combined with professional support, we help guide students towards responsibility.

Is This Level of Mental Health Care Right for Your Loved One?

Seeking care for your loved one can be difficult, especially with how limited treatment programs can be. Your loved one may be too high-functioning for inpatient care, but needs more support than what outpatient treatment can provide. If they aren’t thriving independently, struggle to learn life skills, or benefit from a structured environment, STRiV Forward can help.

Any mental health challenge can be overcome with the right professional help. At STRiV Forward, we don’t just help treat your emerging adult; we help your emerging adult. We help them regain personal agency, learn to overcome their challenges, and achieve independence through their own hard work and merit.

The Role of Family in Long-Term Growth

Families at STRiV are involved in planning care for their loved one with frequent updates and family therapy as needed. Our goal is to help families learn how to balance support for their loved one while fostering healthy separation. This encourages autonomy within students, while helping families establish a supportive relationship with healthy boundaries.

Part of young adulthood is exploring your community to find your role within it. As such, we encourage students to explore our community and embrace the Utah lifestyle of joy, mutual support, and mental resilience. Our fully furnished apartments feature private bedrooms and bathrooms, ensuring safety and comfort for our students. These apartments are within walking distance of HQ, which encourages students to venture out of their comfort zone and embrace what life has to offer.
