Develop Independence With Apartment Style Living
Students live in fully furnished apartments with private bedrooms and bathrooms. This offers a unique real-world experience where students can practice independent living skills while receiving professional oversight and therapeutic support.
Our apartments also offer a safe and supportive place for those with “failure to launch” to build confidence in themselves and their skills. This approach normalizes independent living and makes the concept of adulthood less scary and more manageable.

Comfortable Spaces That Support Healing & Growth
We strive to provide a comfortable and safe environment that encourages our students to branch out and embrace adulthood. With a focus on whole-person wellness, students have a place to heal, fail safely, and build inner resilience. We also offer several places for students to socialize in an informal, home-like setting.
A Supportive Network & Community
Healthy human connections are critical for successful independent living. As such, each student develops a support network. This connects them with peers who understand their challenges. Peer support is encouraged through group therapy, community events, and process groups that provide targeted support and connections. Students are also welcomed into our local community to discover hobbies, volunteer, join a club, or simply socialize.

Life-Skills Development: Building Confidence for Real-World Challenges
As a young adult transitions from high school, they will face challenges that require real-life practice to overcome. Many scenarios they will face as adults can feel scary or challenging. As such, we provide opportunities and support for our students to learn and practice in as close to a real-world setting as possible.

Individual Therapy & Mental Health Support
Mental and behavioral health approaches are utilized as needed as part of our personalized approach to transitional living. Treatment plans vary based on individual need, but all involve evidence-based modalities conducted by a licensed professional. We work collaboratively with outpatient clinicians to ensure each student receives the specialized care they need to cope with and overcome their mental health challenges.
Group Therapy With Peers That Share Experiences
On-site group therapy helps our students build support systems among peers, which helps them understand that they are not alone in their challenges. This collaboration through group therapy helps students improve their social skills, share wisdom, and hold each other accountable in their personal growth.

Life Coaching & Mentorship
With a 1:4 mentor-to-student ratio, we provide personalized coaching and mentorship for each student. Students learn essential life and executive functioning skills, such as self-care, time management, and emotional regulation.
Education & Support for Families
Families can take advantage of our specialized support service, including psychoeducation, family therapy (as needed), and local parental support groups. We work with families to keep them updated on their loved one’s progress, while fostering better communication and healthy separation. This helps families get the care they need while supporting their loved one’s independence.

Real-Life Experiences That Support Growth
We strive to curate an experience that is as close to real life as possible for our students. Students may receive academic or vocational training to prepare them for schooling or a future career. They practice learned life and coping skills as they maintain their apartments, manage their time, and travel around the community.
We don’t have a curfew, nor do we restrict technology (unless in treating a process addiction), which provides natural consequences and encourages accountability. This way, students learn accountability and that the choices they make matter.

Daily Life in Our Transitional Living Program
Our transitional living program is designed to mimic the situations and schedules that our students will face in the real world. Each schedule is different depending on individual needs, with time for therapeutic support and recreation. There is time for meals, studying/work, coaching, individual and group therapy, process groups, community activities, and exciting recreational events.
Students are responsible for maintaining their apartments, cooking most meals, doing their laundry, and other daily life tasks. Though students are largely responsible for maintaining their responsibilities on their own, there is professional oversight to offer advice and to encourage accountability.
Many of our students enroll in our local colleges, work, or seek specific instruction, such as driving lessons. To prevent burnout, we ensure that students have time to unwind, explore the local community, and socialize.

Support for Mental Health Conditions Young Adults Face
Our therapeutic transitional living program provides mental health support for common mental health conditions faced by our young adult students. Treatment programs vary based on individual need, but all use evidence-based modalities delivered by a licensed provider.
We are not a residential treatment facility, and as such, we are not equipped to provide care to students who are not stable enough to live semi-independently. Despite this, we can support students with a wide range of mild to moderate mental health challenges.

Anxiety Disorders & Emotional Regulation Challenges
One of the most common mental health disorders affecting young adults is anxiety disorders, such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Students may also struggle with emotional regulation and expressing themselves in healthy, productive ways.
Depression, Bipolar Disorder & Mood Instability
Mood disorders are also common in young adults, especially those who have experienced traumatic events or were bullied. Bipolar disorder and mood instability issues are typically diagnosed during this time, giving young adults little time to learn how to manage their condition.
ADHD & Executive Functioning Challenges
ADHD can sometimes go undiagnosed, leading to executive functioning challenges that distress and discourage young adults. Young adults with ADHD may struggle to focus, control impulses, or manage time wisely.
Personality Disorders
Though not as common as other disorders, personality disorders can be present in young adults. These disorders make it difficult for one to connect with others, leading to social isolation, self-destructive habits, and poor self-esteem.
Co-Occurring Disorders
When someone has a mental health challenge, they often have another one that co-occurs. For example, anxiety and depression commonly co-occur along with ADHD and mild autism. However, there are co-occurring disorders that young adults in particular can face, such as eating disorders, self-harm, psychosis, and substance abuse.
Serious conditions that require inpatient care, such as active substance use, are not treated at STRiV. However, conditions that are moderate or in the past, such as past substance use, can be addressed on a case-by-case basis to ensure student safety.

Is a Transitional Living Program Right for Your Young Adult?
STRiV Forward is designed to help students who struggle with independence but are motivated to make lasting changes. We are best equipped to help students with mild to moderate mental health challenges, such as executive functioning struggles, mental health issues such as ADHD or anxiety, or the need for failure-to-thrive support. Sometimes our students just need a safe and supportive environment to grow and learn. Any young adult willing to put the work into personal growth can thrive in our programs. Each student is assessed to ensure that they can safely live semi-independently in our apartments.
Partnering With Families to Support Long-Term Independence
We work with families to foster healthy communication skills, establish boundaries, and recognize the individuality of their loved ones. Through psychoeducation, frequent updates, and our parental support services, we give families the tools they need to step back and support their loved one in their independence.

A Supportive Community Where Young Adults Thrive
We are committed to providing a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for our students. Part of our home-like approach to transitional living includes access to our supportive community full of peers and trained professionals. Here, our students can be young adults who can try, fail, and try again. This builds resilience, encourages students to come out of their shells, and seek their place in the world as young adults. There’s a world waiting to be explored, and it begins with a step into our encouraging community.
