Supported Living Program for Young Adults in Orem, Utah

STRiV Forward’s extended care program in Orem, Utah, offers a supportive therapeutic approach to supportive living. Much like extended foster care, our program focuses on helping young adults ages 17-25 receive needed services and supports to aid in the transition to independence, especially for youth aging out of the system. This approach helps circumvent adverse adult outcomes, such as homelessness, unemployment, and low educational attainment.

We are equipped to assist students with a wide range of mild to moderate mental health and developmental needs, such as autism, ADHD, and anxiety. Along with therapeutic support, our extended care program includes mentorship, life skills training, coaching, and academic and vocational counseling.
Students live in fully furnished apartments in a semi-independent living model. This allows students to practice essential skills in a real-world environment, while also having access to professional support.

Our goal is to empower our students so they can meet the challenges of young adulthood with courage. Students naturally encounter opportunities to further their academic, career, and personal growth with the help of our caring and professional staff.

This support can be the critical key to help your loved one create a plan for the future. If you would like to know if STRiV Forward can help you or your loved one, contact our admissions team today.

Why Extended Care Fosters Continued Growth and Independence

Extended care provides a supervised living arrangement where our students feel safe enough to come out of their shells and embrace personal growth. Along with the security of a safe and supportive environment, there are other benefits of extended care that assist students who are struggling with personal challenges.

Help for Failure to Launch

Failure to launch refers to young and emerging adults who struggle to become independent or meet the societal expectations of adulthood. Extended care helps by normalizing adult responsibilities and guiding students into being less fearful of adulthood in general.

Support For Challenges With Executive Functioning

Extended care focuses on helping young adults learn the practical life skills needed for independent living, including executive functioning. Our executive functioning coaches teach and guide our students into learning and practicing skills such as time management and emotional control.

Helping Young Adults Struggling with Motivation and No Direction

Some young adults may struggle to figure out which direction they want to go in life or to set future goals. Extended care at STRiV Forward provides academic and vocational counseling, which can make the future seem more attainable than before.

Continued Support for Emotional Stability

Extended care allows students to work with their caseworkers to receive continued support. This includes access to programs and services that provide a safety net, helping our students feel safe, secure, and understood.

How Our Transitional Living Program Supports Extended Care

Our transitional living program works hand in hand with extended care to create a comprehensive experience that fosters successful independence. For young adults aging out of foster care, the future can feel intimidating, especially if they are unsure of how to be adults.

With our transitional living program, we make learning engaging and natural, with real-world situations and hands-on experiences. Combined with extended care, this assists our students in accessing the specialized services they need for success, while creating a tool kit of practical skills.

Life-Skills Training to Support Daily Routines and Habits

Students learn valuable skills from our life skills training program and immediately put them into practice. Examples of skills include budgeting, basic household maintenance, self-care, and home safety.

Rebuild Confidence Through Real-Life Experiences

Independent living skills are best learned through doing. As such, students encounter real-world situations that help habituate these skills, such as maintaining their apartment or learning to navigate public transportation.

Ongoing Mentorship and Coaching

Our mentors and coaches forge therapeutic relationships with our students, which provides them with caring, experienced, and compassionate support. Mentors work closely with our students, helping them to emerge from their shells and become more confident in their abilities.

Family Education and Transitional Planning

STRiV Forward provides a parental support program with the goal of fostering healthy relationships between guardians and their loved ones. We also assist families in crafting a transition plan to best help their loved one establish healthy independence.

Help for Anxiety, Depression, or Low Self-Esteem

Our therapeutic support services help students cope with a wide range of mental health challenges. Over time, students can bolster their self-esteem, confidence, and courage through targeted support and personal growth opportunities.

Peer Community and Shared Learning

Becoming part of a community is essential for healthy adult living, and at STRiV, our students can expect to interact closely with fellow peers. By sharing experiences and learning together, our students don’t just get valuable socialization; they can also forge lasting friendships.

A Whole-Person Approach to Care

Healthy independence requires a healthy mind and body. As such, STRiV Forward focuses on increasing overall wellness in our students along with professional, therapeutic support. The coping strategies and healthy habits students learn here can be taken with them and utilized in their independent lives. As such, we ensure that each student receives the holistic care they need for not just healing, but future success.

Medication Management for Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

Some students may require medication for conditions like ADHD and anxiety. By working closely with outside professionals, we ensure students can access the medications they need and understand how to take them safely.

Individual and Group Therapy
Sessions

Students have access to evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), to help establish coping strategies and change negative thought and behavior patterns. Group therapy is also utilized as not just a method of healing, but a place to find understanding and accountability among peers.

Recreation and Adventure Outings

STRiV Forward takes full advantage of the natural splendor that Utah has to offer. Students regularly participate in exciting outdoor adventures and activities such as hiking, swimming, and more!

Support for Health and Wellness

Students increase their overall wellness through learning how to exercise, eat a healthy diet, and get restful sleep. Those with an underlying medical condition are carefully monitored to ensure they are safe and comfortable while enrolled at STRiV.

When Extended Care Is the Right Fit

Extended care may not be appropriate for everyone, but when it is, it can make a real difference in the lives of young adults. It offers a working plan for several challenges that can impede emerging adults from fully achieving independence. By giving support and not simply doing, it empowers individuals and teaches them that their choices do matter. Here’s how we address specific challenges that your loved one may be facing.

Post-Treatment Stabilization Needs

Extended care provides ongoing support and coping strategies that assist in long-term independence. By crafting an individualized transition plan, we can best pair students with needed services to further assist them post-treatment.

Difficulty Sustaining Routines

We assist young adults in establishing a healthy routine through experience in our extended care program. This ensures that students make time for not just work or school, but time for self-care, to prevent burnout and stress.

Struggling with Motivation or Life Direction

Our extended care program connects our students with a world larger than they may have experienced before. With opportunities to explore schooling, jobs, or even hobbies, we show students that there’s a life worth living and planning for.

Difficulty Developing Self-Sufficiency

The more our students practice the skills they learn at STRiV, the more confident they become. This self-confidence is essential in teaching them that they can be self-sufficient and achieve their goals through their own merit.

Join A Community That Supports Growth

Our community at STRiV is focused on uplifting our students, so they recognize the power in themselves to achieve their goals. Many challenges that emerging adults face in young adulthood often occur due to loneliness, fear, and isolation. By creating a place where our students can forge lifelong friendships, overcome their fears, and learn essential skills, we also create a community they can rely on in the future.

A Safe Environment Where Young Adults & Students Thrive

STRiV is a place that doesn’t just provide a place for young adults to heal, but also a place to broaden their world and horizons. With a safe environment, caring staff, and custom-tailored therapeutic support, our students have all they need to learn to embrace adulthood for lasting independence.
