Start Your Journey Toward Independence

Getting started at STRiV Forward is easy with our step-by-step process.

  1. Launch: Upon arrival, students settle into their new apartment, begin to make connections, review expectations, and work with the team to create a Road Map for their success while at STRiV, and beyond. The journey begins!
  2. Initial Call: Speak with our friendly Admissions Director to explore whether we are the right fit for your student
  3. Assessment: We work with you to review clinical and readiness criteria, including speaking to past professionals, assessing a general level of safety and stability, and evaluating the student’s desire to work with the STRiV team. It is also important for the student and family to get to know STRiV, including participating in a virtual or in-person tour of our offices and apartments, and to meet the team.
  4. Acceptance/Admission: Once a mutual fit is determined, students are accepted into the program, and an admission date is established. Preliminary discussions may also help determine the level of structure/support that would be beneficial to have in place from day one.

Therapeutic Transitional Living for Young Adults

STRiV Forward utilizes an integrated treatment model that combines evidence-based therapy, executive functioning support, mentorship, life skills training, and wellness education.

This creates a unique and personalized schedule for each of our students so they receive the targeted support they need. Although each student is different and, as such, may have different schedules, all students benefit from weekly individual therapy, daily group therapy, and executive function coaching. Group therapy helps students connect to their peers for mutual support and healing, while executive functioning coaching helps students learn how to manage their time and self-motivate.

Individual therapy uses evidence-based modalities to provide mental health care for each student. Some examples of modalities we use include:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Family systems
  • Positive psychology
  • Mindfulness
  • Trauma-informed care

These therapies are targeted to help students living with mental health conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, and depression, as well as help students struggling with other concerns, such as identity and self-esteem. Although individual therapy is not a “cure” for these conditions, they do give our students the agency needed to healthily manage and care for their mental health.

STRiV Forward can help your emerging adult in several areas that are making it difficult to achieve independence. However, STRiV Forward is not a residential or inpatient program. We cannot treat active addictions, severe mental health disorders, or offer detox services. STRiV Forward is a structured transitional living program for independent young adults and, as such, is best suited for those who are stable and can live semi-independently.

Help For Students

We’re dedicated to helping young adults build independence through structured programs and meaningful connections. Contact us today to discover how we can help.

Building Confidence and Real-World Skills

We believe that structure is an important element of a productive, successful life. We also recognize that “one size does NOT fit all” and that the structure for one student may be very different from the structure for another. At STRiV, we help each student create a schedule that helps them fulfill their responsibilities and meet their goals. Typically, students plan their days with productive responsibilities and healthy routines from 9 AM to 10 PM. On any given day, students may prepare/eat meals, study, go to community activities, have individual or group therapy, and meet with their mentors for coaching and training. It’s also important to build in time for rest and recreation – important elements of establishing balance in life.

Activities vary and include a mix of outdoor and community involvement. Students can hike, exercise, try their hand at pottery, attend yoga classes, and more. Volunteer and community outreach work is also an important part of the experience at STRiV Forward.

Building confidence and expanding our skill set requires stepping outside of our comfort zones. As students at STRiV work with mentors in practicing new skills or trying new things, they often discover newfound abilities and interests. As students develop skills, they become more confident in their ability to take care of themselves and their living spaces. Students often feel proud of what they have accomplished and become secure in the knowledge that they can care for themselves post-treatment.

Therapeutic Support for Emotional and Social Growth

Young adults often have to deal with mental health concerns that can set back their goals of independence. Many of these conditions, such as ADHD, executive dysfunction, and social anxiety, can be managed with the right professional assistance.

As such, evidence-based treatment is integrated within each treatment plan. Students will engage with various therapeutic activities in treatment, ranging from individual to group and family therapy. Specialized modalities, such as EMDR therapy, are utilized as needed. The most common modalities a student may encounter include CBT, DBT, positive psychology, and trauma-informed care. Although students live at STRiV, they technically receive outpatient services, much like those in an outpatient treatment program.

These services are not just there to help students manage and improve their mental health. They also teach essential skills needed for adults, such as emotional regulation, communication skills, and mental resilience. All of which are skills that improve relationships with others, their ability to complete tasks, and boost overall wellness.

Other therapeutic wellness activities are included in each treatment program, such as yoga, mindfulness, and exciting outdoor activities. Our unique location allows us to take full advantage of the beautiful landscape of Utah, with hiking, sports, and more available to each of our students.

Is STRiV Forward a residential treatment center or a transitional living program?

STRiV Forward is a transitional living program that provides residential support for our students. It is not a residential program or a residential treatment center.

The main difference is that residential treatment centers have the facilities to treat severe mental health conditions and needs, such as addiction. STRiV Forward is only equipped to offer therapeutic support for stable students who can live semi-independently. We cannot offer detox or other inpatient services, and students needing intensive help are best served in a facility best equipped to help them.

Our approach is based on the notion that having the freedom to make choices and encounter real-world consequences builds accountability, which is difficult to achieve in a typical residential treatment program Having the freedom to make choices and encounter real-world consequences builds accountability, which is difficult to achieve in a typical residential treatment program.
