Why Young Adults Benefit From Transitional Living Programs
Our program provides a safe and encouraging environment for young adults to learn and practice the essential life skills they will need for independent living. Along with structured support, transitional living boosts confidence and helps young adults look forward to independent living without fear.
Overall, a transitional living program can be the key to success for many young adults who have the motivation to make meaningful life changes but don’t yet know how to do so on their own.
Develop Independence With Apartment Style Living
Our apartments also offer a safe and supportive place for those with “failure to launch” to build confidence in themselves and their skills. This approach normalizes independent living and makes the concept of adulthood less scary and more manageable.

Real-Life Experiences That Support Growth
We don’t have a curfew, nor do we restrict technology (unless in treating a process addiction), which provides natural consequences and encourages accountability. This way, students learn accountability and that the choices they make matter.
Daily Life in Our Transitional Living Program
Students are responsible for maintaining their apartments, cooking most meals, doing their laundry, and other daily life tasks. Though students are largely responsible for maintaining their responsibilities on their own, there is professional oversight to offer advice and to encourage accountability.
Many of our students enroll in our local colleges, work, or seek specific instruction, such as driving lessons. To prevent burnout, we ensure that students have time to unwind, explore the local community, and socialize.
Support for Mental Health Conditions Young Adults Face
We are not a residential treatment facility, and as such, we are not equipped to provide care to students who are not stable enough to live semi-independently. Despite this, we can support students with a wide range of mild to moderate mental health challenges.
Anxiety Disorders & Emotional Regulation Challenges
Depression, Bipolar Disorder & Mood Instability
ADHD & Executive Functioning Challenges
Personality Disorders
Co-Occurring Disorders
Serious conditions that require inpatient care, such as active substance use, are not treated at STRiV. However, conditions that are moderate or in the past, such as past substance use, can be addressed on a case-by-case basis to ensure student safety.

A Supportive Community Where Young Adults Thrive
FAQs
A transitional living program is a program where young adults learn and practice life skills in preparation for adult life. For example, they learn how to budget, cook meals, enroll in school, find a job, and more. These programs typically focus on helping students build a solid foundation that they can use for successful adult living.
Transitional living programs are not the same as inpatient or residential treatment. These programs are best suited for people with severe conditions that require consistent medical oversight, such as active substance use disorders. Although there can be transitional living programs for those transitioning into sober living, young adult transitional programs are focused more on mastering independent life skills.
STRiV Forward supports our students’ mental health and well-being by providing personalized treatment and guidance tailored to their unique needs. Students have access to coaching, mentors, training, psychoeducation, groups, and therapeutic modalities to bolster mental health and build resilience.
We also encourage our students to form friendships and connections with one another, both at STRiV and in the community, to combat isolation and promote social skills. This approach ensures that our students don’t slip through the cracks and receive the care they need to thrive.
Families are included in our transitional living program in several ways. Firstly, families are kept up to date on the progress of their loved one through regular communication. Families may also utilize family therapy, if needed, along with other resources, such as psychoeducation. Our goal is to help families better understand their loved one, foster healthy boundaries, and promote healthy separation for lasting independence.
The length of stay for each student at STRiV will vary based on their individual needs. Typically, students stay with us for 12 months, but the average is between 10 and 14 months.
