FAQs
A transitional living program is a program where young adults learn and practice life skills in preparation for adult life. For example, they learn how to budget, cook meals, enroll in school, find a job, and more. The goal is to help young adults build a solid foundation for successful independent living.
Transitional living programs are not the same as inpatient or residential treatment. These programs are best suited for people with severe conditions that require consistent medical oversight, such as active substance use disorders. Although there can be transitional living programs for those transitioning into sober living, young adult transitional programs are focused more on mastering independent life skills.
The main difference between STRiV Forward and an inpatient or residential treatment center is the intensity of the services that are provided and what is treated.
STRiV Forward does not provide inpatient care, nor do we treat serious conditions that require 24/7 medical oversight, such as active substance abuse, as we do not have the capabilities to provide detoxification and other intensive medical intervention services.
Instead, we offer a transitional living experience where students with mild to moderate mental health challenges can get support, while focusing on vocational training, life skills development, and other specialized coaching needed for independence.
STRiV Forward supports our students’ mental health and well-being by providing personalized treatment and guidance tailored to their unique needs. Students have access to coaching, mentors, training, psychoeducation, groups, and therapeutic modalities to bolster mental health and build resilience.
We also encourage our students to form friendships and connections with each other both at STRiV and out in the community. This helps combat isolation and promotes social skills. This approach ensures that our students don’t slip through the cracks and receive the care they need to thrive.
Yes! STRiV Forward encourages our students to step out of their comfort zones to engage in adult activities and responsibilities. Students seeking to work or attend school receive specialized support to help them achieve vocational and academic success.
No, STRiV Forward does not offer services to treat active substance abuse or addictions. However, we can assist students who have a prior history of substance use and want the support and structure to remain sober.
The length of stay for each student at STRiV will vary based on their individual needs. Typically, students stay with us for 12 months, but the average is 10-14 months.
Families are included in our transitional living program in several ways. Firstly, families are kept up to date on their loved one’s progress through regular communication. Families may also utilize family therapy, if needed, along with other resources, such as psychoeducation. Our goal is to help families better understand their loved one, foster healthy boundaries, and promote healthy separation for lasting independence.
STRiV Forward is a transitional living facility that combines the support of an outpatient program with the structure of a transitional living facility. Young adult men and women live in safe, fully furnished apartments where they can naturally learn and practice independent living skills.
Students are encouraged to seek employment or enroll in school while at STRiV and receive support while they do so. Our team of professional coaches and mentors helps students regain their agency and learn to make healthy choices through their own merit. If you are looking for a therapeutic transitional living program to help your young adult live independently, STRiV Forward may be able to help.
