Mental Health & Therapeutic Support

Treatment options are varied and include evidence-based therapies, case management, and medication management, as needed, for individualized care. This personalized approach to care helps students build emotional awareness, develop healthy coping strategies, and regain confidence in their abilities.

Family Collaboration & Support

Life Skills for Long-Term Success

Students at STRiV Forward naturally learn life skills through real-world experiences and through our team of coaches. These essential life skills are critical in maintaining a home, establishing a career, and/or pursuing further education. Our focus areas include time management, organization, communication, hygiene, nutrition, and the creation of healthy daily routines.

Our Transitional Living Program Structure

STRiV Forward is committed to providing a structured experience that allows our students to learn and grow. This creates a framework for daily independent living that our students can use going forward.

A Structured Yet Flexible Daily Schedule

Life at STRiV follows a structured yet flexible schedule tailored to individual student needs. Days typically involve morning meetings through evening activities, which can include therapy, schooling, coaching, and more. This flexible, but structured approach helps balance productivity, independence, and social connections, preventing burnout and encouraging independent behavior.

Mentorship-Driven Support

STRiV Forward has a 1:4 mentor-to-student ratio, which allows for personalized attention for each student. Mentors are trained professionals with experience in guiding young adults through academics, errands, social situations, and routines. By acting as relatable role models, students gain access not just to daily guidance but also to a mentor who understands them.

Executive Function & Accountability Support

Students at STRiV learn executive functioning skills with the help of our executive functioning coaches and through real-world living experiences. To further support students’ accountability, we use tools such as digital calendars and weekly planning sessions to build organization, time management, and follow-through.

Health, Wellness, and Routine

Learning how to stay healthy and create healthy routines is an important part of adulthood. Students build healthy habits around sleep, movement, nutrition, and overall well-being through professional instruction and mentorship.

Experiential & Community Activities

Students gain plenty of opportunities to participate in our local community, which builds confidence and connections with their peers. Giving back through volunteer work is one way students learn how communities work and connect with others. Weekly experiential activities, such as hiking, fitness, creative outings, and social events, further help students to come out of their shells and experience the wider world.

Integrated Support for Mental Health & Personal Growth

STRiV Forward is equipped to support students with a variety of mental health conditions and challenges that can hold them back from independence. With daily mental health support, our students learn how to manage their conditions and take the steps needed to foster continuous healing and growth.

Anxiety & Emotional Regulation

Students learn practical tools and coping skills to help manage a variety of common anxiety conditions, such as social anxiety disorder. Learning how to manage social stress and emotional expression is critical for social and mental health.

Depression & Motivation Challenges

Mood conditions and lack of motivation can make it difficult to seek purpose in life, especially when depression and other conditions like it are present. STRiV provides support to help students build routines, engage in daily life, and find a purpose that brings them joy and fulfillment.

ADHD & Executive Functioning

Students who struggle with executive functioning skills due to ADHD or other challenges receive specialized coaching at STRiV. This assists students in strengthening planning, organization, and follow-through skills through real-life practice and professional support.

Social Challenges & Confidence

It can be difficult for some students to socialize with others. As such, we help students gain confidence in themselves and overcome social challenges through guided experiences. Students at STRiV learn communication skills, build friendships, and learn how to navigate social interactions healthily.

Co-Occurring Challenges

Students may have co-occurring mental health challenges that can make independence difficult. Addressing these challenges requires individualized, integrated support that delivers optimal mental health outcomes. STRiV integrates this support seamlessly with daily living, and often in collaboration with outside providers.

FAQs

A transitional living program is a program where young adults learn and practice life skills in preparation for adult life. For example, they learn how to budget, cook meals, enroll in school, find a job, and more. The goal is to help young adults build a solid foundation for successful independent living.

Transitional living programs are not the same as inpatient or residential treatment. These programs are best suited for people with severe conditions that require consistent medical oversight, such as active substance use disorders. Although there can be transitional living programs for those transitioning into sober living, young adult transitional programs are focused more on mastering independent life skills.

The main difference between STRiV Forward and an inpatient or residential treatment center is the intensity of the services that are provided and what is treated.

STRiV Forward does not provide inpatient care, nor do we treat serious conditions that require 24/7 medical oversight, such as active substance abuse, as we do not have the capabilities to provide detoxification and other intensive medical intervention services.

Instead, we offer a transitional living experience where students with mild to moderate mental health challenges can get support, while focusing on vocational training, life skills development, and other specialized coaching needed for independence.

The length of stay for each student at STRiV will vary based on their individual needs. Typically, students stay with us for 12 months, but the average is 10-14 months.

Yes! STRiV Forward encourages our students to step out of their comfort zones and take on adult activities and responsibilities. Students seeking to work or attend school receive specialized support to help them achieve vocational and academic success.

STRiV collaborates with external providers to offer several evidence-based and trauma-informed psychotherapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, family therapy, group therapy, and more. Our individualized, integrated approach ensures that students will receive the therapy they need to thrive.

Families are included in our transitional living program in several ways. Firstly, families are kept up to date on their loved one’s progress through regular communication. Families may also utilize family therapy, if needed, along with other resources, such as psychoeducation. Our goal is to help families better understand their loved ones, foster healthy boundaries, and promote healthy separation for lasting independence.

STRiV Forward does not treat active substance use or substance abuse issues, as these are best treated in rehab centers with dedicated addiction treatment programs and detox facilities. However, STRiV Forward can help students with a history of substance use, helping them continue to remain sober with relapse prevention training and connecting them with continued support, such as 12-step programs.

STRiV Forward is a transitional living facility that combines the support of an outpatient program with the structure of a transitional living facility. Young adult men and women live in safe, fully furnished apartments where they can naturally learn and practice independent living skills.

Students are encouraged to seek employment or enroll in school while at STRiV and receive support while they do so. Our team of professional coaches and mentors helps students regain their agency and learn to make healthy choices through their own merit. If you are looking for a therapeutic transitional living program to help your young adult live independently, STRiV Forward may be able to help.
